    January 2005

The plan existed from the moment we started Orkhavnbanen, the boats should move. Using the mechanism of a reclaimed cassette deck it's going to happen now! This is the mechanical stuff we installed to have the boats rolling' on the waves.

    February 2005

Obviously the boats themselves need some additional work too. Three of them in their rough forms are shown.

  March 2005

This track extends behind the fish factory to exchange the yet-to-be-build cars (see below in April) out of sight. The factory complex is build over it and a hole in the back-wall covers it's disappearance once the layout is complete.

The buildings that make the fish factory finally approaching a finished state of some sort.

  April 2005

Pfoei, the fishbone complex is ready and glued permanently in place now. The high silo's at the back hide the hole in the backdrop for the extended spur from last month.

Finally done too is this little freightcar. Two years in a drawer before it got painted and weathered, so it was about time too... This is a plastic kit from Parkside Dundas, we got it from Godfather Models & Supplies.

    MAY 2005

Early this month this fisherman was spotted, who got more and more active over the passing weeks...

A completely new addition to the Orkhavnbanen fleet of motive power is this cute 'Heeresfeld HC 130C' loco. Of-course we'd have to alter the nice Bemo model to the requirements of it's new home...

    June 2005

Holiday season, so here's a number of photo's of out most important source of inspiration during the building of the layout. This is the Tamshavn railway in Central Norway. Loco 5 (build by Skabo in 1950) in Løkken station.

The museumtrain enters the only tunnel the railway has.

  July 2005

The Bemo loco is repainted and after extensive modifications to the frame, equipped with Kadee's. To give the model a somewhat more 'exotic' appearance it got a massive headlight and funny exhaust.

Another great little job was building and installing working switch-stands.

Build from brass, the stand moves with the position of the points. Less exciting jobs we did this month were the lighting and framing construction.

    August 2005

With the Rail 2005 exhibition in Leiden in another month or-so, we're breaking a sweat now! Lots of things need to be done to make it presentable. Darn, we needed something to operate! We started to build 2 motorized coaches 3 years ago, but they got stuck in a drawer as we didn't have a clue how to motorize them...

One of our suppliers (H&H) got us 2 N-scale diesel loco's. As soon as we were home they got dismantled. Yep, that's right: we build the body first and searched for a fitting drive later. Doing it the other way around looked so dull and predictable to us... ;-)

A tuna with yellow fever hangs on a cute brass little crane on the dock. Don't worry, we'll quarantine it soon ;-)

    September 2005

Stress and modeling don't mix, aren't fun and cause significant mistakes because of the rush. However, the result was that by the end of the month we had a fairly complete model-railway to show off. This is the packing prior to transportation to Leiden and the rail 2005 exhibition. As you can see, we didn't have the time to figure out, let alone build, a decent stacking system. But we managed to fit it in the hired VW van...

After a 2 hour build and another hour of fine-tuning this was the result on the show-floor in Leiden.

Bovø station, an impression.

Impression 2

Frodo didn't stop building during the venue and installed 'a plain public' these old car-tires on the docks with a steady hand. Mind the ladder that has seen better days...

This trailer was also ready for years but finally got its place on the layout in Leiden.

Motorized coaches 11 and 12.

  October/november 2005

This loco needs some work to augment the fleet. For now it's in primer.

The landscape was rather empty, so we build more trees.

Balsa-wood is spanned in a drill-machine and sanded down to a tree-shape.

Every few millimeters a small hole was drilled in the stem, to be filled with Asparagus branches glued in one by one.

This is the result after 5 evenings of glueing trees together...
